Let’s resume the path traced by the checklist published last October 11th, to talk about the bridesmaids and their dresses.
In Italy there is no custom of having adult bridesmaids at the wedding: I had already mentioned something in the issue on best men and bridesmaids. I had in fact said that, since there are no adult bridesmaids, usually one of the maids of honor also performs the typical functions of the so-called “first bridesmaid”. In fact, we are used to seeing only child bridesmaids: little girls (sometimes even little boys) who accompany the bride, hold the veil, and create a tender outline for the bride's allure.
However, although there is no habit, nothing prevents you from having adult bridesmaids. We are more and more used to seeing them in the ceremonies of foreigners who increasingly come to get married in our beautiful country. In this case, the rules are classically dictated by the habits and customs of the country of origin, but I think it is also appropriate to take into account where the wedding is celebrated, as well as that sobriety I have often referred to.
First of all, the adult bridesmaids will have to be dressed in a coordinated and monochrome soft color: very trendy colors are purple, yellow, orange and powder pink. There can be many of them and the bride recalls their colors in the bouquet or with ribbons to wear on the wrist. The maid of honor or first maid, however, must be dressed in different colors from the others, will have a role even before the ceremony itself, as well as a special place in the wedding procession. This procession, commonly called the Bridal Party, is made of the following figures:
1) Best men;
2) Maids / Matrons of Honor (depending on whether she is single or married);
3) Bridesmaids (usually the bride’s best friends);
4) Groomsmen (who usually accompany the bridesmaids);
5) Flower girls (little girls who spread petals on which the bride will walk);
6) Ring bearer (a child who carries the wedding rings).
This procession will precede the bride or the newlyweds (in case they enter together) and, at the end of the wedding banquet, the first two people on the list will make their speech which will end with good wishes and congratulations.
However, remember what was mentioned above: that is, to also take into account the sobriety aspect that generally characterizes ceremonies of a certain elegance.
In case of a wedding with only child bridesmaids, all that has been described above will not take place and the girls will always and only be behind the bride: after the ceremony, very often they scatter around and their traces are lost!
Until next Sunday
